My first connection with Catholic schools was going to first grade at Sacred Heart Catholic school here in Boise in the 1960s. I've been hooked ever since. After Sacred Heart, I attended Bishop Kelly High School and was active in sports, band, and several clubs. I attended and graduated from Boise State University in 1983. I spent my sophomore year in the Basque town of Onati with a group of 35 Americans who studied Basque and Spanish. Dr. Pat Bieter led the group and provided us insight to that culture for which I will always be grateful.
I began teaching at St. Mary's in August of 1984 after another trip to Spain. I taught 6th grade for four years, then 4th for one year. I left teaching to try my hand at owning and operating a local Basque restaurant for 17 years, but always knew I would come back to teaching. I taught for 8 years at St. Paul's Catholic school in Nampa and in 2014, came back to St. Mary's.
I feel like I am right where I am supposed to be right now. I am married to a beautiful and kind lady who allows me to spend so much of my free time playing music and correcting papers. Tamara grew up in Meridian and now teaches high school in Idaho City. We have four amazing children going to high school and college, and we count our blessings daily.
Students work in pairs and small groups often in the 4th grade classroom. They operate a classroom economy that is incorporated into Math, Religion, Technology, and everyday discipline. Go to "Classes" to see more about the economy or other classes. Parents and other visitors are welcome to come see our classroom at any time. We are busy and sometimes a little noisy, but learning is a priority. Come check us out!
